If you have never been a member of a running club before, you may consider joining a little daunting. Running clubs can be competitive but are also a very sociable and enjoyable experience. Don’t be put off with the mistaken belief that you have to be a good runner to join the club we do cater for all levels. Clayton has members with a wide range of age, ability and commitment. Many of our members just enjoy the social side of running and maintaining their own fitness levels. We aim to be a friendly and inclusive club and welcome runners of all standards, fast or slow, beginner and returning or experienced runners. If you are a complete beginner we have weekly starter sessions organised by experienced runners.

·         Discount at many sports stores on running shoes etc

·         Free Club Newsletter each month

·         Discount at races: Clayton is affiliated to the North of England Athletic Association and UK Athletics and club members do not have to pay the unattached levy when entering races.

·         Free entry in Mid Lancs and Red Rose Cross- Country league races.

·         Each year there are various events where you need to be a member of a club to compete. Free entry to all relay races: Calderdale Way Fell Relay, Mary Towneley Bridleway Relay, Northern and National 12 stage Road Relay, FRA Relay, BMAF Road Relay, Rochdale Canal Relay.

·         Social running events: Clayton Memorial Relay held in Barley Village, competing on road, trail, fell and cycle with awards and a few drinks in the Pendle Inn afterwards.

·         Training nights throughout the year on Tuesday and Thursday where you can also gain advice from experienced runners.

·         Participate in the Club Championship where you earn points at selected races to count towards our annual awards where you can win prizes in all of the running disciplines

·         Organised trips to races and training events in the Lake District and also further away into Europe etc

·         Annual Presentation Evening and other various social events

By far the biggest benefit of joining Clayton Le Moors Harriers is the support and encouragement that you will receive from fellow club members. It is also an opportunity to meet people with similar interests and add even more enjoyment to the pleasure of running. We are very proud of our history and achievements but with the constant hard work and commitment of the committee and the contribution from the members, we strive to continue with our success for many years to come.

Most of our training sessions finish off with a trip to the local pub for a few drinks and a chance to chat and chance to find out what’s happening.

We have members that compete in most running disciplines: road, cross-country, fell and track.

If you decide to join Clayton it’s not expensive at a cost of £25 per year for a senior member with reduced rates for juniors and associated membership. When you consider the cost of health club membership at average of £20/30 per month this is excellent value.
