Tuesday 2010 Summer Training Venues
All members are welcome to take part in the Tuesday Summer Runs, which are on the fells. The usual arrangement is for three groups to run from each venue for between one and two hours, although this can vary according to numbers, weather and what members have done at the weekend. If you are new to the Club/summer training runs/fell running, please make yourself known to a Committee member or group leader before the run and we will attempt to place you in the most appropriate group. All members should ensure that they carry some emergency/extra clothing with them on the run: wind(water)-proof top, over trousers, hat and gloves. The weather can change very quickly on the fells. (It invariably snows on Pendle in April!) If you, or someone else in the group has an accident, you can very quickly become cold or hyperthermic, even on the most pleasant of evenings. It’s also a good idea to carry a drink and some emergency food (sweets, chocolate bar), in case you are out longer than you expect—it has been known for a group leader to get carried away occasionally.
1) Towneley Park Thursday (May - September)- Structured training led
by John Roche from Towneley Park (meet in the car park next to the Children's
Playground). All abilities and all runners are welcome. 2) Thursday 6:30 pm - Training from The Memorial Park, Church Lane,

Note everyone
stays together and always waits for the slowest runner. Details from Simon
Halliday (01282 606105) or Martin Brady (01282 611523). Thursday (Winter) 1) Thursday (October - April) - Thursday - Structured training led by John Roche
This year there will be a change of format and a move away from one location and track training. The objective is to try and encourage the members to travel and support the chosen venues and to build some team spirit by group training.
There will be four (TRIAL) venues: Burnley, Accrington and Barrowford.
Each session will be around 7.5 to 8 miles and be of fartlek type training with lots of hills where possible, depending on the venue. The sessions set off as one group but as the pace increases it will split and form two groups possibly three. The front group will be running at average pace 6/7 min miles and the 2/3 groups averaging 7/8 min miles. The session is very tough and the recoveries are very short. The route at each venue will be out and back (point to point) running and the plan is for you to find your level and also to try and keep the groups together
Venues will rotate each week starting on 1st Oct at 6-45pm:-
Week 1 : meeting at Towneley Golf Course Gates Car Park on Todmorden Road opposite Cherry Tree Restaurant.
Week 2: Accrington - Peel Park Hotel at 6-45pm (Please park near the school and not on the Pub Car Park..thanks)
Week 3: Barrowford - Bridge Inn - Main Car Park 6 -45pm
Week 4: TBA
Venues will repeat each month depending on the support.
Format: Approx 8 miles on the road with lots of hill work. Session will be in fartlek format split between 2 groups running 6 min (or faster if you are capable) to 8 min mile pace. Session is designed to be tough and so there will only be a very short regroup every 2 miles.
2) Thursday 6:30 pm - Structured training led by Geoff Laycock at The
Memorial Park, Church Lane, Great Harwood. 3) Ladies Training - Thursday 7pm throughout the year from a different
venue each week (see list in newsletter). All Ladies welcome. Contact Alison
Martin 01254 384965 for details.
