Junior Race Calendar 2010

 

 

 

Saturday 21st August 

Darwen Gala Bold Venture Park Darwen - 12.45pm. Under 8 (over 6), U10, U12, U14, U18. Enter on the day - counts towards English Junior Championship.

Thursday 26th August

Seedhill Track Nelson Junior race 6.45pm prior to General Meeting - only open to Clayton members.

Sunday August 29th 

Grasmere Guides race, Sports arena Grasmere. U9 (over 7) 12 noon, u12 12.30pm, u14 1.30pm, u17 2.20pm.

Sunday September 5th

Bradley Race, Playing fields Bradley (near Skipton). Juniors u9/u12/u14/u17 2pm £1.00 to enter.

Saturday 18th September

Simonstone Road Race 2.5 miles. All ages, £4.00 per person, £10.00 for family of 4.

Saturday 25th September

Thieveley Pike (Details to follow).

Sunday 26th September

Run Preston (Starts from the Guild Hall). 2k fun run starts at 9.30am, minimum age 8, £3.00 to enter.

Saturday November 6th

Shepherds Skyline, Shepherds Rest Inn, Lumbutts Road, Todmorden. Races from 12 noon £1.00 to enter. U8, u10, u12, u14, u16.

Sunday December 19th

The minimum age for competing is 6 years for FRA fell races.

Pendle Junior Fell Race – 3rd April 2010

No running group at SOS on Saturday 3rd April. Due to Pendle race.

What a great turnout of young people on Sunday 14th March for the Race at Queens Park.

 

Clayton juniors did us proud with Isaac Wilkinson leading the younger juniors all the way. A great result just in time for his birthday on the 20th March. With David Armstrong, Maxwell & Harrison Baldwin, all aged 6, coming home in the middle of the field. I swear there was a tear in the eyes of proud Dads Jamie & Andrew.

 

13 yr old Hartley E. Beckett winning for the older juniors followed by a close second from 9 yr old William Bellard. "Definitely one to watch".

Also well done to Christopher Archer who came 6th in a field of 26 as an U11 guest runner in one mile junior xc event at Eshort on 7th march.

 

 

Junior Beginners 10 Week Training Plan

 

Before you start with this schedule, get your legs ready with eight days of walking: walk for 20 minutes a day for the first four days, then increase to 30 minutes a day for four more days. Now you're ready to begin with week 1. Each week of the program, do your run/walk workouts on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and take Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday off.

Week 1 Run 2 minutes, walk 4 minutes. Repeat five times.

Week 2 Run 3 minutes, walk 3 minutes. Repeat five times.

Week 3 Run 5 minutes, walk 2.5 minutes. Repeat four times.

Week 4 Run 7 minutes, walk 3 minutes. Repeat three times.

Week 5 Run 8 minutes, walk 2 minutes. Repeat three times.

Week 6 Run 9 minutes, walk 2 minutes. Repeat twice, then run 8 minutes.

Week 7 Run 9 minutes, walk 1 minute. Repeat three times

Week 8 Run 13 minutes, walk 2 minutes. Repeat twice.

Week 9 Run 14 minutes, walk 1 minute. Repeat twice.

Week 10 Run 30 minutes.

Well done to the 6 juniors running for Clayton at the Mid Lancs xc at Townley Park on Dec 19th.  Great to see a good turn out.  Issac Wilkinson, William Bellard, Joshua  Bellard, Sally Ralphson,  Patrick Ralphson and Aidan Holgate.

 

 

If your children want to train with us come along on Saturdays at Spirit of Sport Ormerod Road.Burnley at 12.30pm. Or for 14 year old upwards Thursday at 6pm. You will need a good level of fitness for Thursdays training, as we are looking at improving your times and endurance.

Our Junior Training Sessions for 6-12yr olds will commence on Saturday 21st Nov '09  12.30-1.30pm at Spirit of Sport, Ormerod Road, Burnley. They will take place outside on the Tennis courts, so appropriate clothing and footwear is needed.

 

Please arrive 10 mins early to complete a Medical Questionnaire and Parent consent form.

 

I would like to reassure all parents who I am before you let your most treasured children into the world of training.

CRB checks are in progress for Cynthia and myself and will be cleared by the end of November.

 

As a personal coach and trainer, I'm on the register of exercise professionals advanced level 3, Qualified in Training and Development, Cardiac rehabilitation and Health and Nutrition. So the training will be safe and effective.

 

My way of coaching is 20% technical and 80% inspirational and I hope to inspire all juniors to realise their potential and have fun.

 

All this would not be possible without the full support of all club officials and my right hand girl friday Cynthia Allan who's 100% input makes my job so much easier.

Good news,

 

We have got a start date for Junior Training. Saturday 21st November 2009 12.30pm - 1.30pm

All parents will have to fill in a medical questionnaire and parent consent form.

Training will be suitable for 6 to 14 year olds.

 

Older juniors WITH A GOOD LEVEL OF FITNESS can join the thursday running group already in place at the Spirit of Sport on Thursdays at 6pm.

If you want to come along let me know.

 

To all clayton members, road, fell and cross country reading this page the above training session is suitable for you as it's a crossfit programme. Also if you are aged 15 - 19 years and already running, this structured session will improve your pace, endurance, speed, power and core stability.

Things are progressing for the juniors training sessions to start. Just lots of CRB checks and funding to sort out. Hope to have some positive news shortly. I will then be contacting all Junior members individually to have a chat and see what we can achieve together. It's what you want that is important.

 

 Well done again to new member Aidan Holgate in the Accrington 10k road race. 1st Male Junior in a time of 41.11. Aidan has only been running for 2 months so one to watch!

 

All parents of younger members please let me know if your child has been racing etc. Then all junior members will get a mention.

 

 

We have recently taken over as your new junior coordinator andWe are hoping in the future months and years to encourage more juniors to join the club as well as seeing the existing members progress.

We are looking to set up a structured session on a Saturday morning for younger juniors (6 to 12 years) and these sessions will be concentrated on time spent training rather than distance. For older juniors (12 to 19 years) I already run two groups which meet at the Spirit of Sport Leisure Centre, Ormerod Road Burnley (next to the Fire Station).

Fire station 2k run, 4th Oct 2009

Well done to Isaac Wilkinson and Paul Archers son, Christopher, who ran yesterday. A special mention to Paul's son who came 3rd overall in the boys race. Both boys ran well.

 

Fire Station 7, 4th Oct 2009

A special mention to our new Clayton junior, 16 year old Aidan Holgate who came 16th overall in the race. He is a young man with a lot of potential running well in a race which included some very good club runners and coming in just behind Lee Clough which is a great achievement given that Lee is a strong runner.

 

I am sure that all the older members will be pleased to see these young runners carrying on the Clayton tradition.
