MALE VETS – FELL RELAY SELECTION

Please can you contact me if you haven’t already to put your name forward for selection.
The vets scene is very fierce and competition for places is high.

Ladies Relay Team Selection

The competition for our ladies teams is getting tough and this is great as it shows that Clayton ladies are getting stronger both in ability and in number.  We have had many new comers over the last couple of years and everyone new and not so new seems to be working hard and improving.  This is fantastic but it is making the job of team selection more tricky.  We have a few different training places and there are hundreds of races taking place all over the country with everyone running different ones and all of you promoting our club so I am happy to say I can't keep track of you all.

Therefore I am asking for the following from all ladies who want to run:-

  • The relays are open to everyone - we have a selection criteria based on Availability, Ability and Reliability so if you meet all or one of these and you want to run you must let me know.
  • Contact me by phone, email or post 6 to 8 weeks before the race date don't leave it later as you need time to recce and I need time to organise.
  • Provide me with an idea of your current form - races you have done in the previous 3 - 6 months and a current 10k time and also feel free to tell me where you think your strengths are.
  • provide me with upto date contact details for you .
  • tell me if you have done the relay before and if you know any of the legs (this won't mean you get the same one again though)

From the people who put there name forward I will select the strongest team so PLEASE call me or mail me and let me know

AVAILABILITY - do you want to run / are you free to run. TELL ME.

ABILITY - what is our form, what races have you been doing, how is your training going, are you fit or recovering from injury etc..

RELIABILITY - I am sure you are all reliable and if you put your name froward I will know it.

So I look forward to hearing from you regards the MARY TOWNLEY RELAY

CAPTAINS REPORTS/RESULTS

Pennine Bridalway Mens Vests report – Paul Shackleton

Aspy and Phil Hall gave us a great start on leg 1 coming in 4th with a 2 minute cushion on the next vets team (Bowland) and just under 2 minutes lead on Jason Harbour and Shawy for Clayton seniors. Vets B had Sean Clare and Paul Hesketh coming home in 14th and leading B team. At the front Horwich led from Calder Valley and Rossendale.

Leg 2 and Tim Edward and Dave Nuttall safely held onto the lead in the vets race and Neils Worswick and Hardiman, this time without the palpitations and rigged sheep, ran well bringing the vets B team home in 18th. Seniors Andy Orr and Jamie Baldwin (looking thinner than usual ?) stormed round moving the seniors into 6th and almost 2 minutes clear of Clayton vets. Horwich held onto the lead, just about, from flying Salford pair of Andi Jones and Jon Brown and Calder slipped to 3rd.

Leg 3  Mike Wallis and Paul Shackleton closed down and passed our seniors at the finish coming in 7th and taking 5 minutes out of nearest vets team (Bowland). Pete Booth and Andy Armstrong had a good run for vets B in 18th position. Salford took the lead from Horwich with Calder in 3rd.

Leg 4 and John Roche with Ian Greenwood just held off the young seniors Jack Dugdale and Dave Motley  to come in 7th,with our seniors in 8th. Martin Terry and Steve White for vets B pulled back 3 places for 15th. Horwich regained the lead from Salford with Calder Valley holding onto 3rd.

So it was all set up for a last leg show down with our seniors and vets setting off together. Dominic Howell and Andy Brown had a good run in 67minutes to pull the seniors through to 6th. Last minute call up Mark Nutter bravely ran the lonely (very lonely!) last leg over Rooley Moor road with Ray Lees trying to hang onto our seniors. They just held off  late surge from Bowland vets to win the vets race by 20 seconds, coming in 9th overall.  Pete Thompson and late call up Mick Toms ran well to bring the vets B team home 4th vets and 1st B team. Horwich won from Salford with Calder Valley 3rd.

Full Tour Of Pendle Entry Forms 2010

Contrary to what my notes said on the results of the 2009 Tour, the cut-off at CP4 will remain at 12:30pm (Race start still 10:30am), allowing 2 hours from the start. This year I am prepared to have an early start for slower runners at 10:00am, cut-off at CP4 will still be 2 hours. I am hoping it packs the slower runners closer together during the latter part of the race and gives the marshals an earlier finish, particularly those on the last check points. Entry on the day will be £15.00.
