| Pennine Bridleway Relay Cancelled |
|---|
post date 03-02-2012
Unfortunately the 2012 Pennine Bridleway Relay is cancelled. There is still a considerable amount of treacherous hard ice on the route which is not going to shift before Sunday. We will not be reorganising the event at a later date and despite having spent several hundred pounds on organsing the event we will be refunding entry fees.
My thanks to all of the club/team captains for all of the hard work they have put in by entering and organising the teams. I hope that word gets around although I fancy I will still need to go to Fearns School at 7.00 am on Sunday just in case.

Well done little miss sunshine and all our juniors who ran on sunday at Penistone,3 girls and 1 boy braved the strong winds .
Chris Brown had a great run (following in mum and dads footsteps) in a time of 3-27 taking 3rd place in u8 boys,(think he would make a great road runner with his quick leg turnover).
Mollie Hesketh came 2nd u8 girl in 3-53 with Alanya Irvine 2 secs behind in 3-55 4th place,( watch out big sister Natalya she is on your tail).
The younger juniors are making great progress in their races, WELL DONE !!
Natalya ran well as always and was 1st u12 girl ,winning a signed photo of Alistair and Jonny Brownlee our british triathletes, something to treasure from 2 great athletes, and inspirations, WELL DONE NAT!!
Lets hope we have lots more success in all 3 disciplines in 2012.

| | Mid Lancs XC, Wilson’s Playing Fields Hyndburn - 14th Jan 2012 |
|---|
post date 16-01-2012
On a glorious, cold but sunny day, ideal for running, there was a good turnout of Clayton runners at the latest Mid Lancs League fixture. The first race of the day saw six U11 girls represent the club. Well done Natalya Irvine (5th), Eleanor Root (34th), Molly Hesketh (50th), Shannon Graham (51st), Alayna Irvine (52nd) and Millie Stansfield (54th). Other junior runners were: Oliver Credland and Harry Mason (BU11), Alice Pier and Jodie Graham (GU13), Ryan Clarke and Simon Wilshaw (BU13), plus Joshua Graham (BU15).
In the Ladies U17, Helena Leathley continued to show great form, finishing 3rd.
We had just two representatives in the senior ladies’ race: a battle between Sue Allen and Christine Leathley saw Sue finish just ahead of Christine.
We had a much better turn out (25) than at recent fixtures in the senior men’s race. Phil Hall followed up his Lancs XC Champs win with second place (to the Barrow legend, Bob Atkinson) in the M50 category. The M50 team (Phil, Mark Wightman, Brian Horrocks) finished third, while the M60 team went one better with second (Pete Booth, Dave Scott, Ted Orrell).
However, the senior men’s team remain in danger of relegation from the first division of the League, so we need the senior runners to follow the juniors’ great example by turning out, in force, at the remaining fixtures: Barrow (11th Feb) and Leyland (3rd March).

| | Lancashire Cross Country Championships 2012 |
|---|
post date 09-01-2012
There were some great performances by Clayton members at the 2012 Lancashire Cross Country Championships last Saturday. Natalya Irvine led the way, by winning a brilliant bronze medal in the Girls’ U11 Race, just 9 seconds off gold. There were also good performances from the other juniors: Ryan Clarke, Alice Pier and Helena Leathley, who was fourth in the Ladies’ U17 Race.
Clayton’s first individual golds of the afternoon came in the senior ladies’ race, with Gayle Whittaker triumphing in the F35 category and Karin Goss leading the F60s home, while cross country captain, Irene Roche secured a bronze medal in the F50 category.
A storming run by Phil Hall in the senior men’s race earned a gold medal for Phil Hall in the M50 category. He was pushed all the way by Mark Aspinall and Mike Wallis who won silver and bronze, respectively. Evergreen ‘El Presidente’, Dave Scott secured his umpteenth Lancashire cross country championship medal, with gold in the M65 category.
After the vet ladies narrowly missed out on a team bronze medal, the icing on the cake was a gold medal for the men’s vet team: Andy Stubbs, Phil Hall, Mark Aspinall and Paul Thompson.
Well done all!

We had some disappointments with lost shoes and feeling under the weather, but well done to you all you did finish!!!

Hope the mud bath doesn't put you off astley park on the 10th , just double check the laces!

What a fantastic day! The biggest field to date and a beautiful day - what more could we ask for? Congratulations to Carl Bell and Lindsey Brindle, both winners for the first time. There was an excellent Clayton turn-out, 39 of the 363 finishers, including three ladies. Andy Brown had a great run coming in third behind Carl Bell and James Logue. Mike Wallis was 14th overall and first Vet 50 and Kieran the first Vet 60 and 65! Andy, Mike, Paul Thompson and Chris Balderson won the team prize. It was the first long race back for Martin Brady as well - brilliant to have you back in the long classics Martin! Mark Nutter was presented with the first tankard for completing over 21 Tours - apparently it was well used in the pub in the hours that followed!
Many thanks to everyone that marshalled / helped with the race, and of course to Kieran for organising.

Saturdays Training is now being run from the Unitarian Church in Padiham, adjacent to Memorial Park. This new venue gives us free parking, a large indoor meeting hall and ready access to parkland and open countryside. If you are coming down the M65 (from the Colne direction) then it's much quicker to stay on the motorway until junction 8 and approach Padiham from that direction. Meet at 12.20 for 12.30, juniors will be grouped by ability and all are welcome.
Monday Training is still from Barden Track at 4pm. This is now more open to all abilities; talk to Marion for more details.

post date 05-10-2011
It is with profound sorrow that I bring you news of the death of Bill Smith. Bill was found on Saturday, 1st October, by a walker on Saddle Fell, in the Bowland Fells, just north of Chipping. It’s thought that Bill’s body had lain undiscovered for about 3 weeks. I was expecting Bill to marshal at Thieveley Pike on 24th September, but he never arrived. We now know why.
Bill Smith had been a member of Clayton-le-Moors Harriers since Nov 1971, just short of 40 years, and was a well respected - almost revered - member of the Fell Runners' Association. At our AGM on 25th August, we elected Bill as an Honorary Member in recognition of his outstanding service to the Club and to the sport of fell running. Over the years he wrote a huge number of articles about fell running, runners and races, but his chef d'oeuvre is 'Studmarks on the Summits - A History of Amateur Fell Racing 1861-1983'. Published in 1986, 'Studmarks' soon sold out and copies that have come available have changed hands for more than £100.
Despite having to rely on public transport, Bill helped out at a huge number of races, often in the most inaccessible venues. He used to take photos, which he would distribute, free of charge, to the subjects and always had a cheery word for anyone who passed the time of day with him. A true gentleman - quiet and unassuming. He will be greatly missed by all in Clayton-le-Moors Harriers and the Fell Runners' Association.
Our condolences go to all Bill’s family and his many friends.

post date 16-01-2011
The Park Runs are free "Timed 5K Runs". You need to register only once and there are lots of these events over the country. When you register (on line only) you print out a bar code. This is in effect your runners number. When you finish a Timed Run you are given another bar code which is your finishing position. The runner needs to present both bar codes at the finishing desk. That is it - it is free to enter.
The nearest Park Run is at Heaton Park Manchester All runs are on every Saturday at 9:00 am from the Lakeside cafe (boating lake) Heaton Park. Car parking is at the Lakeside car park off Sheepfold Lane.
These are good for newcomers, coming back from injury or for speed work.

Last season both the Ladies and Mens Teams were first Veterans and second Seniors in the Red Rose and the under 11s were second.
